Happy 1st anniversary in Estonia! Wow! I have a feeling 5 years passed not a year! All these issues were fixed online (follow hyperlinks), which was really easy due to e-government.

  1. Job Abroad seeking process
  2. My pandemic relocation from SPb to Tallinn
  3. Apartment rent, e-government, step by step manual for your smooth adaptation in Estonia
  4. Settle in Estonia program, local FB&TG channel, Expats feedback

And previously I started a thread as to how to become a tax resident. You should fulfil one form and send it back to the Estonian Tax Department. So nothing to add here anymore.

About driving licenses to change β€” the first procedure that requires you to go out of your home, unexpectedly =)

Also, staying with this topic, one of the questions when moving to Estonia sound as β€” β€œCan I use my current licenses or I would need to get Estonian ones?”.

That is an individual thing. An answer depends on and better check-up with Estonian Transpordiamet.

Citizens of these countries are lucky persons as Estonia would recognize licenses.

But better double-check again. At first, I was happy to see Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus on this list, since they are parties to the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic.

However, the rights issued in these countries are valid only for 12 months from the first day of residence in Estonia.

So that means that in some cases if you decide to live in Estonia for more than one year and you want to drive a car, you should take care of the issue of changing your license. So I’ve described it to Russian speaking people in the RU article yesterday.

Whether you need to obtain Estonian licenses, if your current license is valid or less than five years have passed since it became obsolete, the procedure should not be too complicated.

The procedure is described in detail on the website of the Transport Administration.

It usually takes no more than 2 or 3 days. On the first day you will have to pass the medical checkup performed by the family nurse (be sure to schedule an appointment in advance). On the next day, you can phone the Transport Administration to verify that they can view your medical certificate, but you can also do this on the website. Book your visit to the service bureau online to submit the documents and you should then receive the new driving licence within two weeks. Again, that usually takes only 2–3 days. You will be sent an e-mail notification when your new driving licence is ready for collection.

Also, you can read about it additionally at the IT Talent site, blog tab, we made an article too.

So I’m done with the last issue with documents within my first year of adaptation, fuf)

Dear Expats in Estonia, have you done it, was it clear and transparent?
