What you may miss before:)

  1. Job Abroad seeking process
  2. My pandemic relocation from SPb to Tallinn
  3. Apartment rent, e-government, step by step manual for your smooth adaptation in Estonia

So, regarding the adaptation process. It’s such an individual point. No one can estimate how much time one needs to cover the main list of questions after arrival and moving to a new country. And we are not talking even about local cultural-specific and mentality.

The more we read about relocation, the calmer we are. Even if we hardly use this data. And it’s easier to make this step and make this step to move.

I used to work in EPAM, hire-to-relocate USA team, and I still remember how thoroughly people were preparing to assigning to the new project and moving to the USA.

When I talk to engineers from Saint Petersburg, I can see the same approach regularly. Although the distance to move is small, 4–5 hours by car|bus, there is a lot of context between Russia and Estonia, about 30% of the Estonian population is Russian-speaking. I’m excited to see this attitude. And this blog is made to help you overgo through a maximum of difficulties in relocation and adaptation. And I’m happy to answer questions and consult about it within our interviews.

It sounds and looks great when you find the best-fit job opportunity. You got acquainted and got a great first impression from your future manager and teammates, that company is developing, that you can grow with it, promote potentially. That’s the start, important point but for relocation, you need to consider not only this one.

Estonian lifestyle may differ from your current one. It’s a common thing to use KPI, OKR systems, have a structure and work within a standard schedule here, from 9am till 6pm (+/- 1 hour). But that is not about rigidity, it’s about work-life balance, family, not family “do whatever you want” free evening spare time.

Well. I’ve excluded extra cases (releases) or startups with some specific schedules with shifts to the evening part of the day. I’m speaking about classic and widespread principles here.

And yes, I’m ready to pick up my phone and solve an urgent issue, come back to the laptop, but I’ve never experienced it within half a year)

I’ve thanked my colleagues and Julia in particular so many times. They supported me a lot. And I’ve not managed to point out extra things from them as some Facebook, telegram groups, channels.

People living in Estonia would help you as well, even if they have not seen you offline and maybe would hardly see you. Be brave to join local groups and channels. They give you a tip on how to change a broken glass at home, what online shop|marketplace to buy sports tools is better, etc.

Look how to country helps with an adaptation. It is an email that every new resident of Estonia gets in its inbox. Settle in Estonia is a governmental adaptation program.

Settle in Estonia includes several blocks. You can sign in and go through the course 5 years since your arrival to Estonia.

Now there’s a queue for A1 offline Estonia language study courses. I’m still choosing the format of education that suits me better: this program or small group training with a tutor (not free of charge).

Russian and English languages are enough for daily life but I have a feeling there’s no contact with local people and culture. That I lose something and can’t perceive something. The analogy is that you eat soup but you would like to add pepper as it’s too plain. And you need to reach and find this pepper)

I’ll write later about the adaptation processes such as tax residency registration and taxes. About my activities here, Tallinn districts, other towns, new impressions for recent 2 or more months.

Now I’d like to roll up and finalize this article with these guys feedbacks, pure emotions, positive feelings about their lives in Estonia.

So how one can work till night here? That’s a mystery for me =))
